Program & Volunteer Director - Virginia Voice
The Program & Volunteer Director is directly accountable to, and works under the supervision of, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The Program & Volunteer Director, in consultation with CEO, recruits, trains and oversees the work of the Broadcast Board Operators.
Work Schedule: 8:45 a.m.-- 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours as necessary. Provide coverage for Studio Manager and PT Board Operator as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Programming - Maintain a schedule of programming as comprehensive and of as high a quality as possible, in keeping with the purposes and resources of the organization and responsive to the needs and interests of those who are print-disabled.
a. Maintain an inventory of publications and other materials for use by volunteers for production of all programs.
b. Coordinate the provision of Virginia Voice programming to, and the acquisition of programming from, other audio reading services.
c. Work with the Development & Communications Director to establish and maintain communication with various community organizations and agencies for the production of specialized programming of informational content relative to the specific needs and interests of Virginia Voice’s clientele.
d. Work with the Development & Communications Director to help prepare and conduct a survey annually among the listeners for the purpose of obtaining innovation about programming and program scheduling.
- Volunteers - Recruit and train volunteer readers and volunteer studio assistants.
a. Conduct orientation sessions for prospective volunteers as needed in order to assign responsibilities to volunteers in accordance with their interests, abilities and availability and in accordance with the mission and needs of the organization.
b. Schedule and evaluate, on a timely basis, prospective volunteer reader auditions.
c. Coordinate the scheduling and supervise the work of volunteer readers for live reading and for recording, providing ongoing training and workshops as needed.
d. Plan and coordinate annual volunteer recognition.
- Technology
a. Collaborate with Studio Manager on the use, maintenance and purchase of studio equipment.
b. Provide new content for portions of the Virginia Voice website related to programming and volunteers.
c. Collaborate and assist Studio Manager in daily uploading of audio programs to website
as necessary.
d. Update the Virginia Voice website as necessary.
- General
a. Serve as a live and pre-recorded program reader as needed.
b. Promote the interests of Virginia Voice through speaking engagements and other community outreach efforts when possible.
c. Assist the Development & Communications Director in the production of the annual report and e-mail newsletters.
d. Assist with the planning and coordinating of social events.
Carry out other duties that may be assigned on occasion.
