The Department of Health Services has an excellent opportunity for a Research Coordinator to work with the Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC), one of 26 Prevention Research Centers funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. HPRC conducts community-based research that promotes the health and well-being of middle-aged and older adults, particularly those with lower incomes and in ethnic/cultural minority populations most at risk of health disparities. The Research Coordinator will support activities across several projects in the areas of chronic disease prevention and control.
This position will coordinate a suite of new contracts that HPRC has with the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) to a) increase the availability of and access to arthritis-appropriate evidence based interventions, and b) disseminate and support the implementation of innovative practices for hypertension and high blood cholesterol management. This position will be the liaison between the HPRC research team and partners at the WA DOH Office of Healthy and Safe Communities and the Heart Disease, Stroke, and Diabetes Prevention Program, and will have a significant contribution in designing and conducting research activities.
Housed in the UW School of Public Health, the UW Department of Health Services is a dynamic academic and research department with the mission of working with partners in public health and health care to prepare leaders, design solutions, and conduct innovative research that is translated into practice and policy. The Department is steadfast in its efforts to improve and promote the health of all populations, and staff contribute daily and directly to the work of faculty, students, researchers and other staff, providing support and expertise to the Department's common cause.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Coordinate and participate in the design of specific phases of projects; manage timelines and allocation of resources to ensure complex research activities are accomplished on time and on budget
•Collaborate with research team on development and testing of project materials, including recruitment, intervention and evaluation materials
•Conduct data collection activities such as fielding surveys, and conducting qualitative interviews and focus groups; code qualitative data; track and archive data and research results; and provide data analysis
•Coordinate and attend investigator, research project team meetings; develop agendas and track action items
•Coordinate communication with study team, center administrative staff, and local and national partners (which may include state agencies, health departments, and academic/research organizations)
•Develop and submit Institutional Review Board applications, and ensure compliance with human subjects requirements
•Coordinate administrative and data requirements for obtaining data sets from study partner organizations; oversee data use agreements (if applicable)
•Prepare and collaborate on manuscripts and PowerPoint presentations
•Complete other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
•Master's degree in public health, social work, health administration, or a related field
•Two years of experience coordinating complex projects in the field of public health with multiple stakeholders from a variety of cultural and professional backgrounds
•Experience working with academic investigators and researchers, members of community organizations
•Demonstrated research skills, in both qualitative and quantitative methods (design, implementation, and analysis)
•Demonstrated oral presentation skills, both with and without Microsoft PowerPoint
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Ability to work both independently with limited supervision and as part of a team
•Ability to exercise sound judgment and to address complex situations with creativity
•Ability to communicate well with people from diverse ethnic/racial, socioeconomic, and professional backgrounds
•Ability to review existing research, literature, and resources to contribute to the creation of evidence-based materials and research instruments
•Ability to represent HPRC in a professional and congenial manner with professional colleagues both within academia and in public and private organizations outside of academia
•Highly organized and attentive to detail
•Ability to balance multiple demands simultaneously under time constraints
•Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
•A valid driver’s license and ability to drive to community partners sites throughout Washington state as needed. After hire, a successful completion of UW Fleet Services Basic Driver Training will be required to operate University Vehicles.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Desired:
•Strong interest in health promotion strategies to reduce chronic diseases
•Experience preparing and managing the UW human subjects/Institutional Review Board process
•Experiences with Atlas.ti or other qualitative analysis software
Working Conditions:
Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary to meet deadlines is necessary.
