Information Technology Services (ITS) at Old Dominion University is seeking a full-time employee to serve as a Senior Developer. This employee will lead the development and implementation of full stack web and mobile solutions to support the University in the areas of student success as well as academic and administrative systems. The position will support the University web and mobile application environments by acting as a subject matter expert and support through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, management, and support, and will stay abreast of new technologies and methodologies for the development and implementation of web and mobile applications.
Required qualifications include:
- Advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript are essential, with jQuery & Bootstrap.
- Some MySQL client/API familiarity.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers.
- In most cases these knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Level and type of experience:
- Any sort of software methodology experience is essential.
- Advanced server-side application experience with any of PHP, Node.js, or Ruby.
- Considerable experience developing, maintaining and implementing complex web and mobile applications.
- Considerable experience in the use of HTML, PHP, CSS, MySQL, Oracle, Java and JavaScript frameworks for application development.
- Advanced experience in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript are essential, with jQuery & Bootstrap experience desirable.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Some Unix familiarity desired.
- Some AWS deployment experience desired.
- Some experience with development of higher education web and mobile applications.
- Considerable experience with GIT or some version control tool desired.
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related field, or training and experience equivalent to an advanced degree.
