Applications Administrator
Position Summary:
The Applications Administrator position provides systems administration, application support, business analysis, and project management for university software systems and processes. The position applies and/or facilitates vendor upgrades and patches, maintains system security, and application settings.
- Reporting to the Director of Software Systems, the Applications Administrator will partner closely with other IT staff and end-users to identify business needs, evaluate technical solutions, and lead projects to provide technical solutions to business needs.
Other responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Translate maintenance release notes to business processes to assist users with testing and implementation. Troubleshoot reported problems, define and work with escalation paths, and coordinate the vendor, users, and other technical teams through issue resolution.
- Participate in the evaluation of new systems. Collaborate with technical teams to develop documentation, change management, and support standards.
- Lead and participate in software project implementations and major upgrade planning.
Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMPETENCIES:
- Extensive knowledge of current server OS configuration and navigation, Linux and Windows, with the ability to be comfortable working at a command prompt to initiate system commands.
- Working knowledge of software and hardware specifications to match application requirements with system design and purchasing.
- Strong problem solving analytical skills, with demonstrated knowledge workflow and process requirements of complex application systems.
- Strong technical proficiency with the ability to be the subject matter expert in supporting, maintaining, and administering multiple complex applications. Proven ability to learn new content areas and new skills quickly and adapt to new software environments with and without formal training.
- Excellent planning, negotiation and business process skills, with the ability to quickly understand business use cases for applications being supported and successfully interpret vendor release notes as they relate to business processes and software function.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with a strong service orientation, and ability to deliver outstanding customer service, effectively interface with technical and nontechnical staff at all organizational levels, vendor support and sales resources, as well as work collaboratively with in a team environment.
- Independent, self-starter with the ability to exercise sound judgment while managing multiple projects concurrently.
EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining business software solutions.
- Hands on experience in process automation, best practice approach, technology efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Experience upgrading and patching software systems.
- Experience executing logical and complex troubleshooting methods.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position may require additional hours beyond the normal work schedule to include project and operational deadlines and working weekends or holidays.
- May also require occasional overnight travel.
