Summary
Assists Office of Emergency Management (OEM) staff members in their duties, thereby providing the OEM Intern the opportunity to learn about the emergency management profession and the functions and activities of an Office of Emergency Management.
Essential Duties
- Conducts research and planning associated with projects.
- Documents concepts of operations and logistical requirements for projects.
- Prepares training and implementation material for projects.
Your daily tasks may also include:
- Performs operational readiness checks and tests
- Supports development of annual EOC full scale exercise material
- Participates in EOC activations
- Develops public education material
- Supports internal and external preparedness activities
- Supports meeting setup, logistics, and facilitation
- Participates in 2019 plan updates
Minimum Qualifications
Currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in emergency management/planning, urban or community planning, public health, public administration or a closely related field.
A valid Washington State driver’s license, successful completion of a national background check and computer literacy are required
Hours of WorkTo be mutually agreed upon at time of job offer. Work days/hours are flexible, depending upon specific deadlines, meetings, and events. Up to 30 hours/week available between June 16th and September 15th, 2019 with a maximum of 300 hours worked.
Working Conditions & Physical Activities
Work will be performed in an office setting (City Hall). Long periods of time may be spent sitting. Occasionally, work may be at a computer terminal for several hours at a time. Must be able to walk, climb, bend, and stoop to complete tasks.
